How to Wash Prefilters
Pre-filters are made to be disposable, however if you wash them use only hot water. Do NOT use soap, detergents, or bleach because you don’t want to leave any residues which could potentially contaminate syrup flavor. Never wring dry as this stresses the fabric. Air dry completely before storing. Keep in mind that multiple washings will break down the fibers and fine sugar sand will pass through the filters.
How to Store Cone Pre-Filters
Store clean, dry prefilters in a cool, dry place. Do NOT store with mothballs as that could create an off flavor in your syrup the next time you filter. DO NOT fold and crease prefilters as this can weaken the fabric and eventually cause tears.
Instructions for Use
Inspect each Pre-Filter for any tears, frays, holes, or other damage.
Nest or place several Cone Pre-Filters inside the other with the opening of each Cone Pre-Filter facing upward. Place all the nested Cone Pre-Filters inside your main Orlon Filter Bag . Again, the opening of all filters should be facing upward.
Wear rubber gloves to protect hands and arms from hot syrup.
Slowly pour HOT maple syrup into your filtering system so that the maple syrup will travel through the Cone Pre-Filters and then exiting through the bottom of the bottom of the main Orlon Filter Bag. ( VERY IMPORTANT: hot syrup will flow through the filters much better and faster then cooler syrup…. Be sure syrup temperature stays between 180 and 200 F)
